On this day in 2020, the government officially broke ground on the Sh3 billion Lanet International Airport project. Relocated from the previously disputed Pipeline site, the development marked the transformation of the historic Lanet Military Airstrip into a dual-use facility serving both civilian and military operations. The ceremony was presided over by Transport Principal Secretary Solomon Kitungu alongside Governor Lee Kinyanjui. Phase 1, valued at KSh 400 million, included the construction of a 1.7km bitumen runway, a terminal building, and key security infrastructure. Future phases aim to extend the runway to 3.6km to accommodate large cargo and passenger aircraft.
