On 19 June 2026, a youth and women empowerment event organised by Nakuru County Governor, Susan Kihika, at Umoja Secondary School in Nyota Ward, Kuresoi North, descended into violence after clashes between supporters of Governor Susan Kihika and Kuresoi North Member of Parliament Alfred Mutai.

The confrontation erupted after MP Alfred Mutai arrived and attempted to forcibly access the venue, accompanied by his supporters. Tensions quickly escalated into running battles marked by stone throwing, gunfire, and destruction of property.

Three men, namely, Job Kiprono, Mohamed Ali, and Isaac Cheruiyot, sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at Molo Level 4 Hospital. Several other people suffered injuries during the unrest. Property was also damaged, including the burning of a bus belonging to the Ngata Welfare Group that had been transporting equipment for the event, while several private vehicles, among them a Toyota Prado, were vandalised.

The National Police Service launched investigations immediately after the incident. Over the following days, 56 people were arrested in connection with the violence. On 22 June 2026, twelve suspects were arraigned before the Nakuru Law Courts, where investigators sought additional time to complete their inquiries.

Police also named MP Alfred Mutai among the persons under investigation, alleging that he discharged a firearm during the confrontation. The MP denied wrongdoing, maintaining that any actions he took were in self-defence. He was later released on a cash bail of KSh50,000 pending further investigations.

The empowerment drive later proceeded without a hitch, with Governor Kihika accompanied by Nakuru First Gentleman Sam Mburu, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, MPs Oscar Sudi, Eric Wamumbi, Betty Maina, Irene Njoki, Rahab Mukami, David Gikaria, Senator Allan Chesang, former Governor H.E. Isaac Ruto, and Deputy Governor David Kones, among other leaders.
