Street Children Dumped in Chemususu

On this day in 2019, residents of Eldama Ravine woke up to a shocking discovery: dozens of terrified children stranded in the freezing Chemususu Forest. In a late-night “clean-up” operation, Nakuru County officials had allegedly rounded up 41 street children, promising them school and food, only to dump them in the wilderness at 1:00 AM.

This sparked a national outcry and a Senate investigation into the “dehumanising” treatment of vulnerable youth. While some were rescued, five children tragically remained unaccounted for. Today, we remember this event as a call for dignity and protection for all street families.
