On this day in 1949, a cultural cornerstone was laid as the Nakuru Players Theatre Club was officially established. At the Nakuru Town Hall, a group of dedicated arts enthusiasts, led by Town Clerk Mr Ken Louis, founded what would become one of Nakuru’s most iconic performance spaces.
The current theatre building was originally a Masonic Lodge. It was purchased in 1954 by colonial settlers using community donations and converted into a dedicated performance space. The Nakuru Players Theatre operates as a private members’ club with complete autonomy from the government. Despite facing structural challenges today, it remains a symbol of Nakuru’s resilient creative spirit, preserving years of dramatic heritage and artistic excellence. It is located along Kipchoge Avenue.
