On this day in 2012, the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital officially broke ground on its Trauma Centre. Intended to be a state-of-the-art facility serving the busy Northern Corridor, the project aimed to provide life-saving emergency care for road accident victims across the Rift Valley.
The project, however, stalled due to the transition to devolution in 2013 and subsequent funding gaps. It remained abandoned for over a decade. Recent revival efforts led by Governor Susan Kihika and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have breathed new life into the site. Once complete, this 57-bed facility will finally fulfil its 2012 promise, boosting ICU capacity and emergency response for the region.
