On 30 June 2026, Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika officially commissioned the new Mother and Baby Wing at Elburgon Level 4 Hospital, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of maternal and newborn healthcare services in Molo Sub-County.

The modern maternity complex was designed to improve the quality of care for mothers and infants by providing a safer, more dignified, and better-equipped environment for childbirth. The facility includes 30 maternity beds, 10 baby cots, three neonatal resuscitaires, and two modern delivery beds, significantly increasing the hospital’s capacity to handle both routine and emergency maternal services.

Serving an estimated catchment population of 13,000 people, the maternity wing is expected to manage approximately 120 normal deliveries and 15–20 caesarean section deliveries each month, while also providing emergency obstetric care and post-abortion services. County health officials noted that the expanded facility would improve access to skilled birth attendance, reduce maternal and neonatal complications, and strengthen emergency referral services within the region.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Kihika observed that construction of the maternity wing had stalled in 2021 before her administration revived and completed the project. The completion of the facility, therefore, represented not only an investment in healthcare infrastructure but also the realisation of a project that had remained unfinished for several years.

The commissioning was attended by county officials, healthcare workers, local leaders, and members of the community, underscoring the importance of maternal healthcare as a key pillar of Nakuru County’s public health strategy.

The opening of the Mother and Baby Wing on 30 June 2026 marked an important chapter in the history of Elburgon Level 4 Hospital, strengthening its role as the principal referral facility for surrounding communities while expanding access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare in western Nakuru County.
