On this day in 1954, Peter Gilbert Njoroge Ng’ang’a, the man who would become the legendary Fai Amario, was born in Banana, Kiambu. While his roots were in Kiambu, his legacy became inseparable from Nakuru County.
From his industrial base in Naivasha to the High Court at Nakuru, where his multi-million shilling empire is still debated today, Amario was a titan of Rift Valley commerce. Famous for his “Drink Amario and know why birds fly” slogan and his flamboyant 1999 wedding in Nakuru town, he remains one of the region’s most polarising and unforgettable figures. Today, we mark the birth of the “King of Wine.”
