On March 16, 2023, the political spotlight turned to Nakuru Town West as Azimio leader Raila Odinga brought his nationwide “People’s Baraza” to the iconic Mazembe Grounds.
In a bold move into a Kenya Kwanza stronghold, Raila, joined by Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka, addressed a sea of supporters in Kaptembwa. The air was thick with chants as he rallied residents against the rising cost of living and pushed for electoral justice. This visit served as the final strategic launchpad before the major “Monday Protest” in Nairobi, marking a high-tension chapter in Nakuru’s storied political history.
Raila was joined by local stalwarts, including Joel Kairu (former Speaker), Assumpta Wangui, and Eng. Victor Ngatia, alongside various ODM grassroots leaders. This was the last documented visit to Nakuru by the Azimio leader before his death on October 15, 2025.
