On this day in 2021, Governor Lee Kinyanjui led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Naivasha Smart Fish Market in Karai. This Sh240 million project, a partnership between Nakuru County and the Rockefeller Foundation, was designed to rescue youth from the dangers of hawking fish along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru highway.
Planned as a “smart” facility, it promised solar-powered cold storage, electric vehicle charging, and hygienic stalls. Unfortunately, the market ended up among the many projects that remained unfinished under Lee Kinyanjui.
Revival efforts by Governor Susan Kihika in 2025/26 finally brought this modern trading hub toward completion, securing a safer future for local traders.
