In March 1986, Nakuru’s political landscape was shaken by the sudden death of Francis Koima arap Kimosop, the Member of Parliament for Nakuru North. Elected in a 1982 by-election following the detention of his predecessor, Koigi wa Wamwere, Kimosop was a key figure during a period of intense political transition under the Moi administration.
His death, reported as a suicide, remains a poignant chapter in the history of the Rift Valley’s representation. It triggered a controversial by-election in April 1986, ultimately won by Eric Bomett, further consolidating the influence of the ruling party, KANU, in the region.
